Yzerfontein Social Tennis Club

AGM 2025 Review

Our third Annual General Meeting took place on 17 June at the Yzerfontein Sports Club, and with it came the close of one chapter and the beginning of another for our tennis club. It’s been a year defined by steady growth, improved organisation, and above all, the successful resurfacing of our courts—a milestone project made possible by months of preparation, generous support, and close cooperation with the municipality.

The resurfacing wasn’t just a physical upgrade. It marked the club’s first formal collaboration with the local council, who also contributed to the fencing and new posts. It’s a clear sign that our efforts are being recognised, and that our place in the broader community is growing stronger.

With the works now complete, attention is turning to how we use and maintain our upgraded courts. A few important updates were agreed at the meeting. Modest changes to membership and guest fees were approved to keep up with costs, and a new ball fee was introduced to support regular club play. Full details on the updated fee structure are available on our website.

Looking ahead, there’s growing interest in making the club more than just a place to play. A proposal for monthly afternoon tennis and braai sessions was well received, offering something a bit more social alongside our usual morning games. Suggestions to improve drainage, install a small clubhouse, and support a future tennis academy for children from Darling are all being explored by the new committee.

The new team was elected on the night, with Stefan Bauer stepping in as Chairperson, Faan Oosthuizen as Treasurer, and Sarah Jane Steele as Secretary. We extend our thanks to Roelof Oosthuizen for his steady and generous leadership as Chair, and also to Barry Gouws, who has served as Treasurer with diligence and care through a period of significant growth. Both Roelof and Barry leave the club on firm footing, and with our full appreciation.

It was a full and constructive meeting, and a reminder that this club continues to be shaped by the energy, ideas, and commitment of its members. With fresh leadership and a strong foundation to build on, we look forward to the season ahead.
